Women's Writing in Al-Andalus: The Pain and Pleasure of Words

In this collection of poetry we have included Andalusian women’s poetic output analyzing and commenting on individual poetesses and poems. The purpose throughout is to highlight their major contribution to the enrichment of Andalusian poetic landscape. The aim of this book is to study Andalusian women’s poetry seeking both to introduce the uninitiated reader to their work as well as offer argument about the location of these texts within the broader context of Andalusian poetry. It is motivated in the first place then by an apparently straightforward agenda: that of making Andalusian women poets more visible in the literary discourse of Andalusian and Arabic literature.
