About The Book

Work of Art was released in 1934 in the midst of the Great Depression with FDR in office and Prohibition on the verge of being repealed. It spans around 30 years in the lives of the Weagle brothers. In this hotel comedy no one is particularly appealing yet the majority of the characters are well-drawn and recognized as genuinely human and flawed. It will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about hotel management in the 1920s and 1930s (but were afraid to ask!). This novel is a sarcastic or sardonic take on the rags to riches story telling the story of two brothers Ora and Myron Weagle who aim to make it big in early twentieth-century Connecticut. It captures the social mores of suburbia and small-town America with diversionary trips to New York and other American cities. Ori aspires to be a successful author while Myron aspires to oversee the worlds most lavish and well-appointed hotels at least in the United States.
