"It is 10:00AM in the Morning. It is snowing outside and I am in front of this screen trying to put together my final thoughts on this moment in my life. As I do this all of the issues and struggle of the past four years come to my head. Some are memories which teach hard and valuable lessons. Some are still mysteries that bring pain to my mind or distract me from my purpose when I reflect upon them. This letter I write to you is one of thanks. I write it to many people on many levels. I will start with Alexa Charlotte Sterling. You were two years old when Writer’s Block the idea was put together. It would be “a group of friends writing poetry and sharing their thoughts on poetry on the social media site called facebook.” You have been the light of my life and the source of many poems, idea’s, and love. I love you my daughter. To all the family that I have, whether Sterling, Bradley, Kirkland, McKinney, Hunter, Hale, Griffith or Colon, just know that you are loved and thought about. As I am the consummate loner who can never make the time to leave his mind or travel with his body so I only hope that this note will get to you in good health and happiness. Four years ago my friend Rob said; “It’s done.” He set up a group on Facebook and called it Writer’s Block. He turned to me and said that this was a gift and he wanted me to run the page. I was honored and the page immediately showed signs of life with his friends coming to his support and even making a get together event out of the new birth of the group. Within the first year I had this big idea to write and book of poetry. I had done pieces for Poetry competitions and had been published, so I wanted to undertake the process of writing a book and publishing it. I learned that not everyone sees your vision or supports your idea. People very close to me told me it was a bad idea. Even though I made it seem like I was unaffected I was changed by that statement. Often time we put the opinions of others over our own judgment instead of carefully considering who is telling us this and why. As I have come to know; “It is not the words said but the intentions of the person saying them.” It is to my closest friends that I thank you for being my friends during this period and the majority of my adult life. To Sergio, Shea, Lou, Jordy and Jess, my brother’s real or imagined I thank you all. In four years a lot can change. Things meant to be forever can end and mere moments can last a lifetime. Living life and not pushing yourself can hurt your goals and what you want to accomplish. So this is my Thank you to Writer’s Block. Some have left the page and others have come in. Some have given all of their creativity while some have not posted poetry but have supported what we stood for. Nolvys Rodriguez symbolizes Writer’s Block when she submitted her piece. It is a simple four line poem. This is an activity that we perform where we write and choose the next person to continue. That simple poem style is the heart and soul of the Writer’s Block community. For things as simple as that I thank you all and love each and every one of you. To Maria Perez, we thank you for your artist contributions and creativity. To the contributing writer’s, I thank you. I thank you for believing in me to finish this project and release this work not for just myself but for us. And to the reader; enjoy the different styles of poetry. From simply rhymes to the deep introspective lines. Enjoy the art of the page as you read “No Space” by singer/songwriter Jordy Lee or “Corona and Lymon” by the multi-talented rapper/writer and poet Mika Douglass. To all of you, I thank you for taking the time to read and enjoy the thing we love which is poetry. Amen Sterling"
