I Grew Up In A Frontier Society Along With Those Who Like My Father Had Come From Neighboring States To Try To Make A New Life In This Land Of Black Gumbo And Sandy Loam Bordered By The St. Francis And Mississippi Rivers. They Came To Tame The Land And Make It Their Own And Took Pride In Facing The Worst That Nature Could Throw At Them. I Have Written This Book To Let Others Know Of The Struggles Sorrows And Joys Shared By Day Laborers And Sharecroppers During The Twenties And Thirties In The Missouri Bootheel That I Remember And Still Love.
