أمس اليوم-Yesterday as Today

سرى في حاجبها ورمشها وخدّها وفي رسم شفتيها المتلامستين من غير إطباق، انفراج سرور قد يتحوّل إذا شاءت وحين تواتي الحال، لعبًا ومرحًا، أو هو بداية اللعب المؤجَّل. ومثل مها، نظرتُ أمامي وأضفتُ إلى نظري المستقيم نظرًا جانبيًّا أحْوَل مثل نظرها. وحين لمحتها بطرف عيني رأيت على رأسها إكليل عروس وطبقات دانتيل أبيض، تعلو الطبقة منها الطبقة كأدوار الشرفات، وتتوّجها جميعًا طبقة ضيّقة وعالية، وعلى دائر الوجه والعنق، إلى الصدر والكتفين الرقيقتين، خمار من شبك دقيق يحجب قسمات العروس الفتيّة. فلا أرى، تخمينًا، إلّا طيف هذا الوجه، وتعاقب الضوء والظلّ على صفحته، واختلاط سكوته بهمهمته.Ams Al Yawm is Waddah Sharara's first novel and this is what makes it an anticipated novel for many of the writer's readers who knew him as a distinguished academic researcher and a socio-political commentator. The novel intended for interested readers is set in southern Lebanon and is written with the author's well-known eloquence. The novel tells the story of the narrator's childhood which begins with his parents' separation and moving away from his mother to living with his father at his remote village in southern Lebanon. As the novel unfolds the narrator's suffering during the transitional phase from an urban middle-class lifestyle to a rural conservative one it also depicts his childhood adventures particularly his romantic ones at school and with his female cousins whether at the village or even after moving back to the city with his father.Known for his kills at writing the diaries of Lebanon's momentous events Waddah Sharara has a great ability to declaim on urban context and he's unbridled when addressing old and new ideas. - Mohammed Hujairi Al Modon Newspaper
