Youth Gangs and Street Children

<ul> <li> Presents an original and powerful ethnographic examination of children's childhood with a focus on the child's active participation in and acquisition of cultural practices </li> <li> Describes how the phenomenon that at times children themselves end up parenting their parents generates contradictory and at times disruptive role expectations and responsibilities from mothers and children alike</li> <li> Aims to understand and analyse the involvement of youth gangs in female juvenile prostitution and the cultural milieu in which this takes place</li> <li> Deepens our understanding of the different ways such children attempt to extricate themselves from street life in adulthood and later as mothers and fathers. </li></ul>
