Zygophyllum geslini

About The Book

The present work constitutes a continuation of the previous work carried out within the framework of obtaining the diploma of Magistère in biology. First a research of the antidiabetic activity as well as an evaluation of the antiradical power of the ethanolic extract of the aerial part of Zygophyllum geslini are carried out. In addition phytochemical screeneing was done.In this study we tested the antidiabetic activity of the crude aqueous extract of the same aerial part.Comparing the two effects it seems that the aqueous extract is more effective than the ethanolic extract. Therefore we fractionated the aqueous crude extract using several solvents of different polarities in order to obtain the most active and least toxic fraction. This work was carried out on Z. geslini a plant from the Adrar region (Algeria). We devoted this approach to the aqueous extract and its fractions obtained by liquid-liquid extractions while evaluating their antidiabetic activity. Diabetes is induced in male Wistar rats by streptozotocin which causes a physiological disturbance characterized by a chronic hyperglycemia.
