Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore reshaped Indian literature and music. A pioneering figure in modern Bengali literature, he was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature (1913) for Gitanjali. His profoundly influential works include Gora and Kabuliwala; he composed India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, as well as Bangladesh's, Amar Shonar Bangla.
Tagore is also the founder of Visva-Bharati University. His legacy includes poetry, songs, stories and essays that act as a bridge between Eastern wisdom and modern thought.
