About The Book

The story is set during the Philippine-American War and it follows the adventures of Soldier Boy who is initially a cavalry horse in the United States Army. After a series of mishaps and misunderstandings Soldier Boy ends up on the Filipino side of the conflict. The novella explores themes of war loyalty and the absurdities of human behavior through the eyes of the horse.Throughout the narrative Soldier Boy offers his observations and commentary on the humans he encounters shedding light on the ironies and contradictions of human nature. The novella combines humor satire and social commentary which are typical elements of Twain's writing.A Horse's Tale reflects Twain's love of animals and his ability to use a unique perspective to comment on human society and its foibles. While it may not be as well-known as some of Twain's other works it remains an intriguing and entertaining addition to his literary repertoire especially for those interested in his lesser-known writings.
