Extracts from Adam's Diary

Entry 1: The Creation Monday – This new creature with the long hair is a good deal in the way. It is always hanging around and following me about. I don''t like this; I am not used to company. I wish it would stay with the other animals. Entry 2: Naming the Creatures Wednesday – It annoyed me from the first. It is not a man it is a woman. There is no creature so much like a man as a woman. I know because I have looked it up in the dictionary. Entry 3: Discovering Fire Saturday – I made a fire today and the new creature was frightened and threw a stick at it and it ran away. I was glad of that; it is much better to be alone than to be with a person who does not understand you. Entry 4: Adam''s Complaints Thursday – She talks all the time. I wish she would not. I do not see how she can do it. Entry 5: Eve''s Arrival Sunday – It is pleasant again now and I am happy and content. We have been in our new home a week now and it is so beautiful and still. I am sure this quiet life suits us best. The new creature eats fruit and berries and the other animals give her milk to drink. They are like children and love her.
