Gitanjali

Rabindranath Tagore a renowned Indian poet is the subject of the English version Gitanjali: Rabindranath Tagore. The book which Tagore himself translated includes fifty-three poems from the original Bengali translation of Gitanjali fifty additional poems from eight of Tagores other works on poetry and a play named Achalayatan. The literal meaning of the word is offering of songs and because of the books strong devotional tone and subliminal spiritual incitation it can be said to have devotion to god as its subject. The word is an integration of two words Git and Anjali which mean song and offering respectively. It reveals the poets passionate reaction to the wonder of the cosmos or more accurately an affirmation of life in all its abundance mystique and variety.
