<p>Born amidst the turmoil of the First World War my father's life was shaped by the fires of revolution war and ideological conviction. From his early days in Canada to the hallowed halls of Glasgow University where he embraced Communism to the battlefields of the Spanish Civil War and the shipyards of Glasgow where he became a voice for the working class-his journey was anything but ordinary. He fought in World War II as a paratrooper and later found himself on the run from those he once allied with. </p><p>As his life began to unravel with the onset of Alzheimer's in the 1980s a chance phone call sent my sister and me on a decade-long search through history uncovering the secrets that our father had kept hidden. What we discovered would forever change our understanding of the man who raised us and the extraordinary events that shaped our family's legacy. As we unveiled more and more about his double life we came to the realisation that this story - his life - had to be documented for it was all worth it. This is our father's story-a tale of war ideology and the relentless pursuit of truth. </p><p></p>
