The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is a 1876 novel about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi river. It is set in the 1840s in the fictional town of St. Petersburg. In the novel Tom has several adventures with his friend Huck. Originally a failure it ended up being the best selling of any of Twain’s work during his lifetime. The novel has satire humor and social criticism. These features of Mark Twain’s writings made him one of the most important authors of American Literature.
