Later in the story Tom and his friends witness a crime and decide to testify in court leading to the capture of the murderer and the exoneration of an innocent man. Toms bravery and honesty are lauded by the townspeople. Throughout Part I of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Mark Twain captures the spirit of youth friendship and adventure in his writing. The novel is filled with humor suspense and social commentary on issues such as racism classism and morality.
