CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) on a national level. Upon clearing this exam, candidates can apply for teaching post in Central Government schools (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.) and schools under the administrative control of UTs of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and NCT of Delhi.

The basic eligibility criteria for aspiring candidates to appear for CTET is as follows:
• Class 12 pass with minimum 45% for Primary teacher
• Graduation with minimum 45% or Class 12 pass with minimum 50% for Elementary teacher
• Completed the required teacher training programs/teacher education courses
To be precise, there are different levels of eligibility criteria for Paper 1 and Paper 2. Let’s have a look at them in detail.
• Minimum 50% in Senior Secondary or equivalent exam. Passed or appearing in final year exam of Diploma in Elementary Education (Duration: 2 years)
• Minimum 45% in Senior Secondary or equivalent exam. Passed or appearing in the final year exam of Diploma in Elementary Education (Duration: 2 years)
• Minimum 50% in Senior Secondary or equivalent exam. Passed or appearing in the final year exam of Bachelor of Elementary Education (Duration: 4 years)
• Minimum 50% in Senior Secondary or equivalent exam. Passed or appearing in the final year exam of Diploma in Education (Duration: 2 years)
• Bachelor’s degree with a B.Ed. degree
• Graduate and passed or appearing in the final year examination of Diploma in Elementary Education (Duration: 2 years)
• Graduate with 50% and has passed or appeared in the final year exam of B.Ed.
• Graduate with 40% and has passed or appeared in the final year exam of B.Ed. as per NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) regulations
• Minimum 50% in Senior Secondary or equivalent exam. Passed or appeared in final year exam of Bachelor of Elementary Education (Duration: 4 years)
• Minimum 50% in Senior Secondary or its equivalent exam. Passed or appearing in final year exam of B.A.-B.Ed./B.Sc.-B.Ed.
• Graduate with 50% and has passed or appeared in B.Ed. program (Duration: 1 year)
CTET is an objective-type exam with 150 MCQs (multiple choice questions) in each paper. The duration for each paper is 2.5 hours.

Language: Hindi/English for main question paper. For Language I and Language II, the question paper will be in respective languages chosen by the candidate.
Marking Scheme: 1 mark for correct answer. There is no negative marking for wrong answer.

In CTET exam, Paper 1 and Paper 2 have three common sections - Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I and Language II. But the nature and standard of questions are different for both papers.
Similarly, for Language I, the questions will focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction. As for Language II, the questions will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
